Senior Financial Advisor
John A. Buetow, CLU, is a native of Midland, Michigan. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Central Michigan University in 1972, and completed his Master of Arts Degree in History at Western Michigan University in 1979. John taught high school history in Litchfield, Michigan then Mendon, Michigan from 1972-1981. During these years, he also coached baseball, basketball, and football.
John began his financial services career in 1981 with Equitable Life. During his fourteen years with Equitable, he was a qualifying member of the Million Dollar Round Table as well as recipient of numerous company and industry awards.
Currently, John's business practice concentrates on fee based asset management. He focuses on personal service and customer satisfaction.
John and his family are long time members of Zion Lutheran Church in Kalamazoo. At Zion, John has served as President of the Congregation, chaired several different committees, been a member of the Board of Directors, and taught various Adult Education Bible classes. John and his wife Candy are the leaders of a young parents’ small group.
John and his wife Candy (a retired sixth grade teacher), have two daughters: Tracy a registered Pharmacist in South Haven, Michigan, and Beth, a School Psychologist for the Van Buren Intermediate School District.
John and Candy have visited Europe on three separate occasions and look forward to more visits abroad.
John is a Registered Representative offering securities through Cambridge Investment Research, Inc. He is also a licensed insurance agent in Michigan offering life, accident and variable contract.
Brian Spitzley grew up in Battle Creek, Michigan where he attended St. Philip High School. He furthered his education getting an Associates Degree from Kellogg Community College in 1997 and a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Western Michigan University in 2000.
After college, he worked in the mortgage & loan industry for about 6 years. In 2007, the economy started to go into a financial recession which caused my position to be cut and the small business to close its doors. Brian looked toward becoming a Financial Advisor and was hired by Edward Jones in 2008, passing his Series 7 & Series 66 exams along with getting his Life Insurance License. In 2011, Brian decided to move his financial practice over to New York Life for 6 years and gained some valuable knowledge on the business of Life Insurance and Variable Annuities. New York Life closed their Portage, MI office in August 2017 and Brian decided to move his practice once again to an independent broker dealer called Cambridge Investment Research. Brian enjoys helping clients set short & long-term financial goals, retirement planning, college education, life insurance, investment portfolio development, and strives to maintain good customer service.
Brian is married to Kelly Spitzley and they have no children. They both enjoy time spending time at their lake home boating and fishing, traveling, reading, and outdoor activities. Brian also believes in being involved in the community and is an active board member of AMBUCS. He has served twice as President of the local Kalamazoo AMBUCS chapter. He is currently also a member of a Kalamazoo BNI chapter and serving as the Vice President.
Alison Carlson is originally from Bath, Michigan, just outside of Lansing. After graduating from Lansing schools, she attended Western Michigan University and received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She taught preschool for 4 years and elementary school for 6 years and loved teaching, but disliked the long days away from her children. She joined the firm part-time in 2016. Alison currently lives in Portage, Michigan with her husband and children. She enjoys volunteering in her children’s schools and spending lots of time outdoors with her kids.
